The Beauty of Frost
A lot has been said in recent weeks about the impact of the very wintry weather that the UK has been experiencing. Most of it has not been particularly pleasant and has focused on the problems that it has been causing. This is true, as the UK is not geared up for such weather in the same way that countries that experience it regularly are. The snow, especially in the amounts that some of us have had it, can be a nuisance, as can the frost. they can both cause great danger, and several deaths have been caused by these conditions.
For many of us most of the snow has now gone, but we have been experiencing some really low temperatures. For most of the last 2 weeks night time temperatures where I live have been between -10 and -20 Selsius, and daytime temperatures have often also been well below zero. I know that other parts of the world experience much worse than this on a regular basis, but they are prepared for it, as is their wildlife and plant life.
In the UK it is different, but if you have time to stop and look then this level of frost creates a beauty that we do not often see, and that is the purpose of this post. Our hedgerows take on a new and seldom seen attraction, some of which I have tried to record. The pictures below are not of snow, this is all as a result of frost - in the macro such frost can be dangerous, but in the micro, it can be stunningly beautiful!
